On April 21, Okayama University held the first annual Okayama
University Science, Technology, and Innovation Creation Fellowship (OU
Fellowship) award ceremony at the 50th Anniversary Hall. The OU
Fellowship was established to assist students enrolling in doctoral and
postdoctoral programs in Okayama University’s designated priority
research fields with the aim to cultivate young researchers capable of
contributing to the advancement of science, technology, and innovation
in Japan.
Not only does the fellowship provide research support funding and
research grants to recipients, but it also offers career support. This
year, 10 research fellows were selected from 17 applications.
At the award ceremony, Okayama University President MAKINO Hirofumi
presented research fellows with certificates and encouraged them by
saying, “As the first OU research fellows, I hope that you will do your
best to become role models for those who will follow in your footsteps. I
encourage you to apply “backcasting” to your research by imagining what
you hope to accomplish in the future and working backwards to identify
what actions you need to take to get there.”
After the ceremony, research fellows sat in a circle with Okayama University faculty members and engaged in an interactive dialogue moderated by Associate Professor MACHIDA Hisashi from Okayama University's Institute for Education and Student Services. Participants had the opportunity to give a one-minute flash presentation about their research interests and receive feedback from OU Fellowship General Manager and Organization for Research Strategy and Development Special Appointment Professor OTSUKA Aiji and President Makino.
