United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and
Okayama University (OU) signed a comprehensive agreement in January 2020
and started the “Young Scientist Programme for SDGs in Japan” in order
to contribute to the achievement of inclusive and sustainable
development through enforcing capabilities of Science, Technology and
Innovation (STI).
The programme offers eligible young scientists from the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and selected African countries (i.e.,
Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar,
& South Africa), the opportunity to enroll in a PhD programme at
Okayama University in Japan for 3 years. The application for Academic
Year 2022 has been opened and the deadline is 15 December 2021. Please

[Application Requirements]
• Applicants who have received, or are expected to receive, a master’s
degree by the time of admission in any majors related to Environmental
Science, Agricultural Science, Medical Bioengineering, Medical Devices
and Materials Engineering, Healthcare Science, and Human Care
Innovation.
• Those who were born on or after April 2, 1987.
• Hold positions as official from line ministries; or faculty members/researchers at university or research institute.
• Those who obtained GPA: 2.3/3 or more.
• Those who fall under any of the following a) – c) regarding English language ability.
a) Those who have CEFR Score B2 or more.
b) Those who have completed a curriculum with English as the main
language that meets the entrance qualifications for doctoral programs in
Japan.
c) Those who are deemed to have English level equivalent to or higher than requirement.
