Total 157 researchers (61 from abroad), who work on damage-associated molecular patters (DAMPs) including high mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) and are the leaders in the field, attended the 9th iDEAs. The special invited lecture was given by Prof. Shizuo Akira from Immunology Frontier Research Center, Osaka University entitled “Regulation of immune responses by endonuclease Regnase-1”. There were 35 invited oral presentations and 50 poster presentations and active discussions and communications were observed. The involvement of DAMPs in the incurable diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, neuropathic pain, spinal cord injury, epilepsy and sepsis was discussed and the novel therapies for them were proposed.
In the welcome reception party in the hotel Granvia Okayama and the gala dinner in Okayama Castle, the participants enjoyed the Bityu Kagura Dance and locally-produced Sake. The 9th iDEAs was supported by Okayama University, plural companies, and private donations. It is expected that the present symposium will facilitate the network formation among the young researchers in Japan as well as in the world and accelerate the development of anti-DAMPs therapies for different kinds of diseases.
