Polyphony is a student-run literary magazine by the Discovery Program
for Global Learners at Okayama University, but it is also a place that
welcomes the diverse perspectives and backgrounds of the students and
one that provides a space of creative reflection. We are a group of
editors, writers, designers, photographers, and many talented others who
share the same vision and have come together to seriously consider the
question: How can we create a place where the voices of different
students are heard and represented? In this third year of Polyphony, we
have features that celebrate the program’s diversity that goes beyond
our usual cultural commentaries, alongside intriguing academic papers
that dig deeper into issues of poverty, immigration, and self. Personal
essays and creative contributions, especially those by our “trapped
students”, speak to the struggle of being amidst multiple voices,
places. *everything*. We sincerely hope you enjoy this third issue of
Polyphony!
