On April 12, Okayama University held a signboard unveiling ceremony
for its newly established Green Innovation Center, which started
operations on April 1. As an SDGs Promotion Research University, Okayama
University envisions the center as a base for human resource
development and technological development that supports regional
revitalization and a carbon-neutral society.
President MAKINO Hirofumi and Executive Director for Promotion of
Digital Transformation and newly appointed director of the Green
Innovation Center ABE Masanobu opened the ceremony, with President
Makino addressing those present with the following words of
encouragement: “We hope that this center will contribute to the
realization of regional revitalization, a carbon-neutral society, and
the creation of a regional circular and ecological sphere by developing
collaborative projects that transcend the boundaries of organizations
and groups; for example, through the promotion of the wood construction
and forestry industries and the support of digital transformation in
regional businesses.”
The signboard was unveiled by President Makino, Executive Director for
Planning and General Affairs TAKAHASHI Kayo, Director Abe, Department
Manager AYANO Toshiki and Department Manager NOGAMI Yoshio.
The center aims to provide technical support for the creation of an
information infrastructure in the forestry industry in collaboration
with the “wooden construction/forestry/timber supply chain sector”,
which is based in the northern part of the prefecture, in particular in
Maniwa City (a designated SDGs Future City). Additionally, the center
aims to develop a regional business model for the promotion of a
zero-carbon society and the creation of a regional circular and
ecological sphere with its two-department structure called “Green x
Digital”. The two departments are responsible for developing human
resources capable of implementing digital transformation while remaining
cognizant of the unique challenges in the Chu-shikoku region.
The signboard was made from Hinoki cypress grown in Maniwa and was provided by the Forestry, Timber, and Wooden Architecture Education and Research Committee (based in Maniwa) to commemorate the establishment of the Green Innovation Center.
